Community impact

Engaging our hub communities

Our hub communities are the heart of our operations and the foundation of our shared success. As we invest in local nonprofit organizations and volunteer initiatives, we strengthen the social and economic fabric of the regions where we live and work. These relationships enable us to address community needs more directly and create a lasting impact that extends well beyond our airports.

Chicago

Our Chicago operations reflect a deep commitment to the city we call home, which is strengthened by our community engagement, workforce development and youth education, particularly in STEM. In 2025, our September of Service marked the highest level of employee volunteerism to date. We hosted nine key events and several team-led initiatives, engaging hundreds of employees across our headquarters, the Network Operations Center and the airport. Together, they packed meals and amenity kits, mentored youth and worked side-by-side to clean up beaches and neighborhoods.

Denver

In Denver, our Community and Market Impact work centers on youth and STEM education, environmental sustainability and essential needs such as affordable housing and food security. These priorities come to life through strong employee volunteerism and strategic local relationships. One key highlight this year was our support of the Disabled American Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, which was our largest volunteer engagement across the network. We helped transport over 500 staff and veteran athletes to Aspen/Snowmass for a week of adaptive sports and community connection, covering travel for 20 participants and waiving baggage fees for all. On-site support from United for Veterans Business Resource Group leaders and senior executives underscored our ongoing commitment to honoring those who have served.

Houston

As Houston’s hometown airline and the gateway to Latin America, United is deeply invested in the people and industries that shape this region. Our support advanced green technology, expanded career pathways and promoted youth development through STEM and aviation careers — while empowering our 14,000+ local employees to lead through volunteerism. In 2025, United served as the Official Airline Partner of Wings Over Houston, reaching more than 90,000 attendees through flight demonstrations, aircraft displays and youth-focused STEM programming. More than 100 employees volunteered to support special-needs and student events, connecting families and youth to aviation careers. Our support of the Houston Independent School District Foundation also reached over 300 students through aviation programs and career expos, broadening access to aviation careers for Houston students.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles is one of our most competitive hubs and a strategic gateway to the Pacific with over 125 daily departures and the largest intra-California network. Our community work extends beyond the immediate LAX footprint into the neighborhoods where our customers and 5,000+ employees live and work. Our support in Los Angeles focuses on workforce development, wildfire relief and STEM and youth development, aligning the United business priorities with the region’s most pressing community needs. In 2025, United expanded its support of the Fly Compton Foundation at Compton/Woodley Airport, providing no-cost flight instruction for local youth. United also engaged more than 5,000 attendees at the annual Air & Space Fair.

Newark

In the Newark and New York region, our community efforts center on strengthening EWR reliability while fostering collaborations that reflect the priorities and people of the area. We emphasize youth development, workforce readiness and community connectivity, reinforcing our role as the airline of choice for the region. In 2025, our support of the Lincoln Center advanced our shared goal of bringing the arts closer to the communities we serve. Through programs like GlobalFEST and Summer for the City, we help ensure that creativity, culture and global perspectives remain accessible to every New Yorker.

San Francisco

As the Bay Area’s largest airline, United operates nearly 300 daily departures to more international destinations than any other carrier in Northern California. Our support reinforces our role as the region’s hometown carrier while advancing workforce development pipelines, sustainability leadership and strategic corporate sponsorships and investments that support long-term growth. In 2025, United expanded its support of Eat. Learn. Play. to provide access to nutritious meals, reading resources and active play. United employee volunteers engaged across six Oakland schools, revitalizing playgrounds and strengthening our connection to the communities surrounding SFO.

Washington D.C.

United is the leading international carrier serving the DC/VA/MD region, positioning the Company for continued and accelerated growth in one of the nation’s most globally connected corridors. Our community support focuses on cross-sector collaboration and expanding access to opportunity. We prioritize collaborations that reflect the communities we serve. In 2025, United expanded its support of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum through immersive youth programming, including two summer camp days at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and guided student tours inside our Dulles hangar. These experiences introduced students from underserved and underrepresented communities to an active aviation environment, strengthened our workforce development pipeline by inspiring future aviation professionals and deepened employee engagement across the region.
